I also like the idea that they could be added in with a navy expansion which could add units to all factions.ĭaemons seems like a mess though, they would either be too overwhelming with powerful units, or underwhelming where they would be balanced by making all their units expensive and ‘hungry,’ making armies half the size of the others. Now I like the Naga, because they are less powerful than daemons and unique enough with their own style and units. It’s like if the Xel’Naga and Hybrid became playable in Starcraft. In fact, it’s why they weren’t the fifth race as they were originally intended, Blizzard didn’t like having a supposedly all-powerful army balanced out with supposedly lesser mortal armies. While BE and CO are too similar to already established factions, daemons are simply too powerful. Now I didn’t comment on daemons at all, but now that you mention it, I don’t want them as an official race either. The Demon race has the potential to be unique because “they will do anything or almost anything to gain power and potential”įirst, I was referencing Blood Elves and Chaos Orcs with that statement. If you want to make them unique, custom maps are the way to go, but in standard ladder, skins and nothing more. These races are too similar to the humans and orcs that if they were included in multiplayer they should be nothing more than skins. And that is what people are afraid of.Īs for the original topic, blood elves and chaos orcs. Balance may seem trivial to a casual player, but Blizzard will take it seriously, and all races will see a ripple effect of changes due to it. I also like some of Retera’s points in that it could expand other races with naval combat.īUT, don’t act like there isn’t going to be serious issues with adding a fifth race into the game. If they wanted to expand them, Blizzard is creative enough to make more units. Now I’ve expressed that if they were to add a race, the naga would be the most marketable and unique. I’m cautious about change because change is what gave us Diablo 3. Now, see everyone keeps going on and on about “balance” when they’re just scared of change. Instead of a custom Undead race it has the Lost which are uniquely different and have flying ships instead of a Shipyard. The content in Beyond the Throne is highly customized, though. It is available online if you search for it. To that end, Blizzard hired the user Kam who created a mod that is much like this named Beyond the Throne that includes a full-on finished Naga race, as well as a Shipyard for the Orcs and for the Humans. Then you add a finished Naga to this and it’s going to fit and feel strategically relevant to be competing with a swimming amphibious race as opposed to the other four races who need to build boats. That way, a full-on “alternate” expansion custom environment could be made where each of the original 4 races use their last building slot on a Shipyard like it was probably going to be in TFT instead of an Item Shop – and every map has water. Where Naga would be the most unique and fitting would be on a new map pool where all of the other 4 races had a Shipyard available, and the Naga did not, because of their special amphibious movement type feature.įor this reason, I think the best thing would be if custom games were able to save score and feel compelling to play competitively on a level that rivaled the melee games. One of the main unique aspects of the Naga is that they have amphibious units because Frozen Throne was originally going to feature a Shipyard for each race, and custom ships for each race (which are present in the editor and for campaigns). The Naga fit best a new expansion of the game that Frozen Throne was probably at one point going to be, but isn’t.
